Factory Pickup collects your goods from your China factory and moves them into fulfillment, with no service fee and pure cost pass-through.
August 19, 2026

Moving finished goods from your factory to the warehouse usually means stitching together a freight forwarder and a local trucker, plus a receiving 3PL at the other end. When something goes wrong, you're the one chasing it over email, and the surprise fees land weeks after the truck already rolled. And it's unpaid work. You spend hours a week coordinating vendors, and none of it grows your brand.
Factory Pickup takes that work off your plate. Portless folds the domestic-China leg into your fulfillment, so the team that already ships your orders handles the first mile too, with full visibility from the factory floor to your customer's door. We pick up from any factory in 25 Chinese provinces within a day of quote approval and bring your goods into the Portless warehouse, where your inventory goes live within hours of arrival with photo confirmation.

Today the first mile is a relay of vendors, and every seam is a place something breaks. These are the problems Factory Pickup is built to remove.
Factory Pickup flips all of that. You get your team's time back, and your goods get inbounded faster.
Portless collects your goods from any factory across 25 Chinese provinces, including hubs like Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, Henan, and Sichuan, and moves them into direct fulfillment, with one chain of custody from the factory floor to your customer's door. with one chain of custody from the factory floor to your customer's door.
Fewer hand-offs mean fewer lost cartons and a faster path to shelf. If you want the mechanics of how goods flow once they reach us, we've written about how direct fulfillment from China actually works.
The flow is simple. You send us the pickup details, and we return a quote in one business day. Once you approve, we collect from the factory and run the inland leg in one to three days. Your inventory is checked in and live within hours of arrival, with photo confirmation.
Tell us once, and we take it from there. After the first setup, Portless coordinates future pickups from the same factory location and contact directly with your factory, so you never re-enter supplier details.
You pay the actual carrier cost at 1:1, with no markup and no padded documentation fees. It's a cost pass-through, not a free service.
What you pay comes down to two things, your shipment's chargeable weight and the service speed you choose. Chargeable weight is the standard freight measure carriers bill on. It's the greater of your shipment's actual weight and its volumetric weight, so a light but bulky pallet is priced on the space it takes up. Factory Pickup passes that chargeable-weight rate straight through to you instead of marking it up.

24-hour Air;Urgent restocks and hero SKUs you can't afford to run out of;First-weight rate, plus segmented bracket rates for each weight tier above it
48-hour;Air + Truck;A balance of speed and cost on regular restocks;First-weight rate, plus (chargeable kg − 1) × the band rate

On top of the carrier rate there's a default carrier insurance fee of ¥2, about $0.30, per shipment. Any surcharge is flagged in your quote before pickup, never invoiced as a surprise three weeks later.
The status quo is either you or your supplier arranging the leg. A generic 3PL doesn't touch it at all. Their job starts when a truck reaches their dock. Factory Pickup owns the whole thing.

If you sell into BFCM and the holidays, the timing matters. Chinese factories close in early October and freight capacity tightens through Q4. China's National Day Golden Week runs October 1 to 7, 2026, with the Mid-Autumn Festival falling just before it from September 25 to 27. Book pickups now to have inventory sellable before the crunch, while capacity is still loose and rates are still sane.
Threadheads, a print-on-demand brand, was one of the first to run this setup with us. Here's their operations manager on the experience.
"Working with Portless has been one of the smoothest partner onboardings we've done. As a print-on-demand business, we fulfil orders in our own centre and hand them off to Portless daily for shipping, and they built the whole workflow around that from day one. Daily pickups organised for us, rates that actually made sense, and a team that treated a brand-new process as a problem to solve together rather than a reason to say no. We were one of the first to run this setup with them, and they made it feel like it had always existed." — Finn Lewis, Operations Manager, Threadheads
